About the Fritz Wurzer Memorial Scholarship for Adult Education
TruStone Financial Foundation is sponsoring a new program for an adult education award established in memory of Richard “Fritz” Wurzer, father of Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) host, Cathy Wurzer.
Scholarships are awarded based on the satisfactory completion of an essay question. The number of scholarship awarded is dependent on the amount of donation dollars raised. To see a full list of student and institution eligibility requirements, view the program overview.
We are accepting scholarship applications March 1-31, 2023.
A Message from Cathy Wurzer
My father personified persistence, integrity and commitment to his family, his friends, his faith and to whatever job needed to be done.
Fritz (known as Dick to professional colleagues) believed in the value of a good education. In a mid- career transition, he went back to school and received a master’s degree that led to several years teaching business and management classes at Anoka Technical in Anoka, Minnesota, and Anoka/Ramsey Community College. Prior to finding his calling in the classroom, Fritz Wurzer was a market research analyst for Munsingwear, Inc. in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was an avid reader, preferring history and biographies to fiction. Even in his later years and living with dementia, he attended adult education and enrichment classes. My father died in 2014 and it’s been a dream of mine since his passing to create a scholarship to celebrate his thirst for learning and to commemorate his dogged attempts at career reinvention in his 40s and beyond. I’m thrilled that this dream is being made possible by TruStone Financial.
